For 41 days, I stepped away from social media completely. No scrolling, no notifications, no checking in “just for a minute” (because let’s be honest, “just a minute” on social media is like saying you’ll eat just one chip — it never works). And for the first time in a very long time, I found myself living my life instead of peering into everyone else’s.
The very first realization that came to me during this fast was simple, but powerful: I don’t want social media on my phone anymore. The convenience had become a trap. Too easy to pick up my phone, too easy to fall down a rabbit hole of baby photos, vacation pics, and everyone’s highlight reels — meanwhile, my own real life was quietly waiting for me to notice.
So here’s the new rhythm I’m living by: no more than 15 minutes a day, only during the week, and never on evenings or weekends. I’ve discovered something revolutionary — the world doesn’t actually fall apart if I don’t “check in.” Instead, my mind is calmer, my heart is lighter, and I’m no longer scrolling my life away.
Don’t get me wrong, this hasn’t been without its challenges. Habits are stubborn little things. But this boundary has been life-giving. The silence of social media left room for my soul to breathe and reminded me that my worth isn’t tied to likes, comments, or shares. It’s found in the One who calls me His — and no algorithm gets to change that.
If you’re feeling stretched thin, distracted, or caught in comparison, maybe it’s time to pause and ask yourself: What would it look like to create space for your own life again? (Hint: it might look like eating pizza in your PJs or actually finishing that book that’s been sitting on your nightstand for six months. 🙋🏻♀️)
Blog #2 in this series is comin’ to ya on Friday!
