Love that Lasts – A Valentine’s Day Rooted in Christ 💝

Ahh, Valentine’s Day—the holiday where we’re bombarded with rom-coms, oversized teddy bears, and a million-dollar jewelry commercials telling us that true love is apparently measured in diamonds. But let’s take a step back from the commercial version of love and talk about something deeper—God’s design for marriage and how we can use this holiday to honor, strengthen, and cherish our relationships.

Proverbs 18:22 says, “He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.” Marriage is a beautiful gift, but let’s be honest—it’s not always candlelit dinners and sweet love notes. Sometimes it’s toothpaste left in the sink, socks that never quite make it to the hamper, and two people who are simply tired. And yet, in the midst of the daily routine, God calls us to love one another as He loves us.

This Valentine’s, let’s be intentional. Set aside time to reconnect—not just with fancy dinners but with meaningful conversations. Pray together, laugh together, and speak words that uplift. Ephesians 4:2-3 says, “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” Your words have the power to strengthen your marriage or weaken it. Let’s choose kindness, gratitude, and encouragement over complaints and comparisons.

A strong marriage isn’t built on one grand romantic gesture a year but on daily choices to love and serve each other. Consider writing a heartfelt note, planning a surprise date, or simply taking the time to hold hands and talk about your dreams. Think about what made you fall in love in the first place and find ways to rekindle that joy. More than anything, invite God into your marriage—pray over your spouse, read scripture together, and trust Him to be the glue that holds you both together.

And while chocolate and flowers are lovely (never say no to chocolate!), the greatest gift we can give our spouses is love that reflects Christ—a love that is patient, forgiving, and enduring. So grab that cup of coffee, hold your spouse’s hand, and let God be the center of your love story. That’s a Valentine’s worth being excited about!

Debbie 🙂
